We want to acknowledge that Ugly Bunny is on the land of the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the syilx/Okanagan people.
The name Ugly Bunny is inspired by a fable that she wrote while attending university. The story was about a young, lonely bunny that thought it needed to change itself in order to be liked. In the end, it made the bunny even lonelier and unhappy because it changed so much that it didn’t even recognize who it had become. The moral of the story is to be comfortable with who you are and trust in the fact that being different is not a bad thing. It is those differences that make you, you! Just like something that is handmade, although each item may look the same, it is the slight differences and imperfections that make it unique and special.
Ugly Bunny started as a side project while attending the Material Arts and Design program at the Ontario College of Art and Design. At that time Sarah’s work was mainly textile and sculptural based and in 2013 her focus changed to Jewellery design. Her goal is to be able to produce an affordable line of handmade/designed pieces of jewelry that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Ugly Bunny is for the adventurous at heart, for the person that is just as comfortable hanging out in front of a campfire as they are in a downtown urban landscape.
The goal is to create a collection of light-hearted jewelry that can remind you of all your great adventures and bring a smile to your face.
